Today we expected to take a pleasant tour around the village and were surprised when it transitioned into a challenging hike up the mountain behind our school, where we are staying. We stopped at a small hut at the summit and took in the breathtaking view.

After spending a few minutes at the top to catch our breath, we returned to camp and had lunch, which included a delicious vegetable soup and fried eggs, homemade by the town president and our chef, Rosita. We took a trip to the village daycare and community center to learn about what we’ll be doing to serve the community. We started right away with carrying rocks down near the community center, where we will soon start building a fence surrounding it. After a grueling work day, we returned home and had some free time before dinner. We’re so excited to be here!
