Lights, Camera, Action!

This post was written by students Samantha and Allie S. and includes photography by Allie S.

Week 2 started after a good, filling breakfast, when we headed to work, sweating under the hot sun. Some of us mixed cement, while others played with the adorable kids at the daycare. I, Allie, was able to start my independent project taking portraits of the children at the daycare. I loved seeing their faces light up as they looked at photos of themselves.

When not at the daycare, we continued to pass buckets of cement while calling out names of countries to pass the time. I, Samantha, along with everyone else, enjoyed seeing our project progress more and more each day as we worked alongside the members of the Iltaqui community. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week will bring us!

A poem by us:

The bathrooms can be grimy

And our feet are sometimes slimy.

We played soccer with the locals in the heat,

Almost always getting beat.

But we walk around outside in the sun,

Smiling, laughing, always having fun!
